Purple State: Republicans who have stopped breathing.

Oh, how it must suck to be a Republican right now.

From Newsweek:

President Bush’s job approval rating has fallen to just 31 percent, according to the new NEWSWEEK Poll.

[...]

Worst of all, most Americans are writing off the rest of Bush’s presidency
And, from The National Lawyers Guild and the Center For Constitutional Rights:

[T]he war criminals must be brought to justice - beginning with Donald Rumsfeld. On November 14, the Center for Constitutional Rights, the National Lawyers Guild, and other organizations will ask the German federal prosecutor to initiate a criminal investigation into the war crimes of Rumsfeld and other Bush administration officials. Although Bush has immunized his team from prosecution in the International Criminal Court, they could be tried in any country under the well-established principle of universal jurisdiction.

.......

Because the recently passed Military Commissions Act (aka: The Torture Act) included immunity for all administration officials from war crimes prosecution, the CCR is initiating a case in German courts next week, "under their law, which is universal jurisdiction, which basically says a torturer is essentially an enemy of all humankind and can be brought to justice wherever they’re found."
Hmmm... that could mean Rumsfeld might have to strike out any plans to attend Oktoberfest in Munich next year. Of course, he could join other noteable Republican figures who are now under "scrutiny" and just stay home. It does save Rumsfeld having to spend $97 on what becomes a useless document.

Then, via Pam, we have something from Jon Swift.

If Republicans really want to protect the institution of marriage, and were not simply trying to ban gay marriage to use it as a wedge issue in the campaign, then they should prove their dedication to this cause by introducing the Defense of Britney's Marriage Act as the first order of business in the lame-duck session of Congress and President Bush should sign it. I am sure that Britney would have no problem with the Federal government intervening to stop her divorce since she once said, as depicted in the Michael Moore's film Farenheit 9/11, "Honestly, I think we should just trust our president in every decision he makes and should just support that, you know, and be faithful in what happens." So please write to your Congressmen and Senators and ask them to save Britney's and K-Fed's marriage now--before it is too late.
Damn.

It's getting so a good Republican can't even file for a simple "family values" shattering divorce without being noticed now.

Ah... Sunday. The day when "Teh Base" turns on the old plasma and gathers in as much spiritual, Republican purity as they can.
