I was planning my deferment baby...

Max Cleland smacks down Cheney.

Cheney was speaking at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee 2007 Policy Conference and said this:
When members of Congress pursue an anti-war strategy that's been called slow bleed, they're not supporting the troops, they are undermining them. And when members of Congress speak not of victory, but of time limits -- (applause) -- when members speak not of victory but of time limits, deadlines or other arbitrary measures, they're telling the enemy simply to watch the clock and wait us out.
Time limits. Something like, you have two years to get this done or it is quite clearly lost. Not that Iraq ever needed to be done in the first place, but it is the same old Cheney crap.

Max Cleland, a former US Senator wasn't having any of it:
"Where the hell were you in the Vietnam War? If you had gone to Vietnam like the rest of us, maybe you would have learned something about war. You can't keep troops on the ground forever. You gotta have a mission. You gotta have a purpose.

"You can't keep sending 'em back and back and back with no mission and no purpose. As a matter of fact, the real enemy is Al Qaeda, it's Al Qaeda stupid, it's not in Iraq."
It's a little late in the game suddenly come out with strong words, but it's still nice to point out that Cheney put a great deal of effort into not serving his country as a draft-age, fit and eligible male.
