Does this mean we have to think all the time?

So, apparently, we've been making people think. By now most bloggers have seen the Thinking Blogger Award and The Galloping Beaver was presented the award and meme by my favourite corsair Cap'n Dyke, Pirate Queen & Rogue Blogger. She runs a tight ship with a randy crew and lots of grog 'n' ale to keep morale high.

The Rules:

1. If, and only if, you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think.

2. Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme.

3. Optional: Proudly display the ‘Thinking Blogger Award’ with a link to the post that you wrote.

Linking to just five blogs which would deserve such an award is more than just a little difficult. Every blog on the blogroll over there to the right is worthy of being described a thinking blogger. So... there is some method to my five selections, but I can't possibly disclose what it is. It had something to do with Leatherback Turtle sightings, I think. That or it was the fly buzzing around the monitor. The order is also just as random so, in no particular order....

I have to make an award to CathiefromCanada. Her search of the toobs for some of the most important stories and comment is always informative, thoughtful and relevant. The highlight of a cruise through the blogs is often Cathie's Great Line Of The Day which slices right to the nub of any issue.

Any thinking blogger would have to include Hairy Fish Nuts. Salvage cuts through the crap, calls 'em like he sees 'em and leaves you laughing so hard your sides will hurt. It may also be the only blog out there where you can actually read how a mistimed hiccup caused incredible bodily harm.

The thinking blogger out there is my favourite godless, octopus-loving biologist, PZ Myers at Pharyngula. PZ simply makes being a godless heathen fun. The truth is, even if there weren't endless amounts of religious absurdity for him to address, I'd still have to visit daily just to check on beer-drinking octopi. I don't know whether PZ will take this up but I'm sending him an award anyway. Anyone who is as confused as I am about what MySpace is all about deserves an award.

Peace, Order and Good Government, Eh! Yup. That's what we're all about and the crew at POGGE lay it all out there in thoughtful order. They've even been quoted by major television networks. Good political commentary and some really good blues-blogging. Now, if we can only get the lead blogger back on his feet, we'll all feel better.

If you haven't read Not Your Mama at Coyote Angry you're missing out on a great thinker. NYM is no-nonsense, no fluff and no kidding. Writing from the Mojave Desert she keeps an eye on the world of the bizarre, both political and social. And her floors came out very nicely too.

Now I feel a little bad. There are just so many others I would have liked to put up there. Suffice to say, I was limited to five. If you're on the blogroll, you deserve this award.
