How the pros do it

Northern Ireland this week. Be sure to watch the video at the top of the article as a single line of riot police holds fast against attacks by hundreds of violently rioting youth actually attacking them and not undefended cars and shop windows. Or others singing national anthems, chanting passively, or trying to get home from work. It's probably a safe bet that most of those NI cops would have gladly traded places with their counterparts in Toronto.

It's also probably a safe bet that if this were the G8/20, our scared-of-bubbles police wouldn't know what hit them.

In fact, it might be an idea to send ours for a learning tour with the PSNI. Extend that to the the UK police in general, and our police might learn something about how police that do not normally walk around weaponised to the gills interact with the people they're meant to serve.
